Dog sitting — questions Irish owners ask

How long can a dog be left alone between visits?

Four to six hours is the practical maximum for most adult dogs, and less for puppies, seniors and dogs on medication. That's why two visits a day is the standard booking for a dog home alone.

Will the same sitter do every visit?

Yes, unless you agree otherwise. Consistency is the whole point of in-home sitting — the dog sees one familiar face rather than a rota.

Do sitters handle medication?

Many do. Filter for it when you search, and put the dose, timing and method in the booking notes so it's written down rather than remembered.

What about my keys?

Most owners do a free meet-and-greet and hand over a spare key or a lockbox code then. Keys are returned at the end of the booking unless you're on a standing weekly arrangement.
